libimobiledevice is a software library that talks the protocols to support iPhone®, iPod Touch® and iPad® devices on Linux.

Unlike other projects, it does not depend on using any existing proprietary libraries and does not require jailbreaking. It allows other software to easily access the device's filesystem, retrieve information about the device and it's internals, backup/restore the device, manage SpringBoard® icons, manage installed applications, retrieve addressbook/calendars/notes and bookmarks and synchronize music and video to the device. The library is in development since August 2007 with the goal to bring support for these devices to the Linux Desktop.

This may be older news but now that we’ve found a place to live I can get back to putting some updates up!

If you have a iPhone but you hate loading up to Windows just to get it to run properly you should need to check out the video below.  Even though I switched over to Android, I still have my iPhone that I use for GPS and this brings a tear to my eye!

The people over at libimobiledevice are doing  good work freeing the iPhone, and if you like what you see then think about making a donation to them.  Its for a good cause!

They say that starting with their v1.0.0 release they have tested with iPhone/iPod Touch 1G, 2G, 3G/3GS and iPad running up to firmware 3.2, so if I get some time I may take a look at this and see about getting it working.
